Ethiopians in six parliamentary constituencies where fraud was proven in last month's hotly contested elections re-voted on Thursday amid continuing disputes over provisional results that show a ruling party win.
The National Electoral Board of Ethiopia (NEBE) said voters at 16 polling stations in six constituencies in south-eastern and south-western districts were casting new ballots after it verified fraud had occurred in those locations.
"We are conducting this rerun after the national election board investigated complaints by different parties that ballot boxes were stolen and that underaged people were caught casting votes," said Mekonnen Wondimu, a senior NEBE official.
