U.S. Donates Wheat to the Horn of Africa

The U.S. this month purchased 45,000 metric tons of HRW, with a total value of $6,696,000, to donate to the World Food Programme (WFP) efforts in Ethiopia.

Delivery will be later in June. USDA added to those donations this week when it additionally invited offers for up to 66,500 metric tons of HRW, also as a donation for WFP's use in the country.

The U.S. also recently announced the purchase of 23,000 metric tons of soft white wheat, for donation to the WFP program in Eritrea.

That donation has a total value of $3,299,350.

Today, USDA's buying agency announced that they were seeking offers for up to 7,990 metric tons of HRW for donation to three humanitarian organizations in Uganda.
