A 13-year-old Dundee schoolboy has become the first person to be awarded a SSPCA trophy for excellence in animal welfare education.
Springfield School pupil Aki Nikulainen, who is originally from Ethiopia, visited the organisation’s centre at Petterden to receive the Sheona Watt Trophy.
Budding journalist Aki was the overall winner of the SSPCA’s annual schools competition, senior primary section. He was also presented with a DVD player.
The Society’s education officer Louise Hayward said, “The competition challenged the youngsters to write a short article on how to be an animal friendly citizen.
“Aki’s entry was well researched and looked at many welfare issues.”
Aki said he was delighted with his prize, adding, “I entered the competition for fun, but I didn’t expect to win.”
