ADF Supports Development in Ethiopia

The Multinational Power Interconnection Project is to improve the population’s access to electricity in Ethiopia and Djibouti through regional cooperation in the energy sector in the context of the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD) programme. The specific objective of the project is to establish power trade between Ethiopia and Djibouti and to improve electricity access at affordable prices in the region.

The Fisheries Resources Development Plan Study will examine the problems of development of the fisheries sub-sector and aquaculture. A Development Plan, and a set of appropriate actions aimed at better orientation of future interventions in the sub-sector will also be defined. This study will contribute to reduction of poverty through improvement of the food security of the rural population and sustainable natural resources management.

Finally, the main objective of the Mombasa-Nairobi-Addis Ababa Road Corridor Development Project is to contribute to increase cross-border trade and production factor flows between the eastern and horn of Africa regions to support regional socio-economic development. More specifically, this initiative will aim at: improving land transport communications between Kenya and Ethiopia, contributing to enhance trade and regional economic integration, providing landlocked Ethiopia with an alternative outlet to the sea through the port of Mombasa and finally opening up Kenya’s Arid North Eastern Province.
